Elysium by failingjune Elysium by failingjune
Infrared photograph with channels swapped at one of my favorite local gardens. And yes, that is a duck plaque. :)

07/01/2011 (EXIF date is wrong).

Portland, OR.

Are IR shots difficult / cumbersome / annoying to set up? I'd really love to try IR photo someday.

I would say that IR shots can be cumbersome and difficult at first. You have to set up the shot without the filter (the filter to the naked eye is opaque), change the custom white balance to a uniform green color, screw on the filter, and expose for the right amount of time, which depends on the weather. Also, if you live somewhere that is not sunny year round (I live in Portland where it's rainy almost 45% of the year and overcast even longer) then you can only really do IR during the sunny months, which is something to take into consideration. Once you've gotten the hang of IR, though, it's incredibly fun. It captures landscapes so completely differently and opens up a whole new type of composition to play with.
